After reporting on the existence of the Sonos S5, we were immediately excited to get our hands on a unit to see how it stacked up against the rest of the lineup. If you’ve followed us for any length of time, you know that we at Gear Live are huge Sonos fans, so it makes sense that our unit arrived as soon as they were available, and we had it set up within minutes. Literally.

The S5 is the easiest way to get up and running with Sonos. We had it unboxed, plugged in, and playing music in under five minutes, controlling it with an iPhone. The price is right too, something we’ve previously criticized Sonos about. The entry level into Sonos used to be $999, but with the S5 that drops down to $399. In this episode we open up the DJ Hero Renegade edition set. DJ Hero is the new turntable-based rhythm game featuring hip-hop, electronic, and rock music, and the Renegade Edition has a bunch of premium touches, and is also available just for a limited time. We show it all in this edition of Unboxing Live.

By the way, if you like music and haven’t played DJ Hero, you owe it to yourself to check it out. In our opinion, this is better than any Guitar Hero or Rock Band game that has come before it, in the way that you interact with the music, and the totally unique pairings that they throw at you. We were able to get our hands on the Motorola DROID a few days early, and we’ve got to say, this thing is a beauty. Android 2.0 is responsive and crisp, especially on the fantastic DROID display. That’s right, y’all. It’s Zune HD day, and Microsoft’s newest portable PMP is ready to make its debut. Of course, we’ve got your hook-up, and have put together an unboxing gallery looking at the Zune HD, as well as everything else in the box. We must say, we were definitely stoked about this. We will of course have a Zune HD review coming for you as well, but since Microsoft opted to give us review units that wouldn’t work until the Zune 4.0 software update was available, that’ll have to wait a bit. We were able to get our hands on one of the stainless steel beauties, and have given it our gallery treatment. A few months ago, Panasonic released the amazing Lumix DMC-ZS3 digital camera, and we immediately took notice. After all, a point-and-shoot that features 10.1 megapixels, a 25mm ultra-wide-angle lens, and an astounding 12x optical zoom was certainly something that commanded attention. The camera also boasts a Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens and records high definition 720p video in AVCHD Lite format, at 60 frames per second no less. We were finally able to get our hands on one now that the Lumix ZS3 isn’t constantly sold out everywhere we turn, and we’ve put together a gallery of Panasonic Lumix ZS3 unboxing images to show off the camera itself. Apple recently updated the Mac mini, bringing us a newly redesigned version for 2009. We picked one up, and feature it in this episode of Unboxing Live! We show you everything included in the box, and also give you a look at the device itself, which now features a mini DisplayPort connection, as well as a bunch of USB ports. At WWDC 2009, aside from introducing the world to the iPhone 3G S, Apple also introduced a newly redesigned MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro 2009 revision does away with the removable battery, but replaces it with a battery that lasts up to 7 hours. Oh, and we mean a real 7 hours, we’ve tested it. Also, the ExpressCard slot has been removed, and in its place we now have an SD card slot. The MacBook Pro will even boot off of an SD card if you tell it to.

At the WWDC 2009 keynote, Apple revealed the new 13-inch MacBook Pro, bringing the aluminum MacBook into the Pro family, and also bringing back FireWire. We were able to get our hands on one of the new MacBook Pro 13-inch models, which also now include an SD card slot, and we’ve got a look at the product here for you in this episode of Unboxing Live!

The Elgato Turbo.264 HD is a hardware video encoding stick that seems to support just about every video format under the sun, and can convert that video for use on various devices, in high definition, much faster than your Mac can do that on it’s own. We open the item up in this episode of Unboxing Live!, and whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone who works with video, or even transcodes video for use on their iPhone or other portable device.

The Griffin SmartTalk Bluetooth headset claims to eliminate background noise, and sometimes more importantly, wind noise. We are finally bringing you our look at the recently-updated Apple iMac early 2009 model in this episode. Not much has changed on the iMac front, although the price has gone down and the screen size has increased from 20-inch to 24-inches for the standard model. You also get the new NVIDIA graphics chipset as well, which results in a nice speed boost in the graphics department. We know you guys have been waiting for it, so here we are with our Nintendo DSi unboxing gallery. In case you haven’t heard, the Nintendo DSi is the company’s follow-up to the standard Nintendo DS. It does away with the GameBoy cartridge slot, so it is thinner, and it also features two camera on the device, one facing the player and one facing away from the player, on the outside of the unit. The cameras open up new gaming possibilities, as does the much expanded storage. The DSi features the DSi Shop, which connects to the Internet in a similar fashion to the Wii Shop, and allows you to download games in exchange for Points. We were able to spend some quality time with the latest dual slider Windows Mobile smartphone from AT&T, that being the Pantech Matrix Pro. If you are unfamiliar with dual slider phones, what this means is that if you slide the phone vertically, you get a number pad—but if you turn it horizontally and slide up, you get a QWERTY keyboard. Very slick. The Pantech Matrix Pro runs Windows Mobile 6.1, and is Video Share capable, which means you can beam video to and from the phone to other handsets, a feature that we think is the hotness, along with turn-by-turn navigation via aGPS. We will be doing more with the Matrix Pro, but for now, we’ve put together a nice Pantech Matrix Pro unboxing gallery, featuring 31 images of the new smartphone.

Continuing our look at pocket HD camcorders, we were able to get our hands on a new Kodak Zi6 Pocket Video Camera, which shoots in 720p high definition, at a full 60 frames per second. In case you were wondering, that’s unique for ultra-portable HD camcorders. There isn’t much storage space on-board, but that is rectified by the SD card slot, which supports up for a 32 GB SD card. The Kodak Zi6 also includes an SD AV cable, as well as an HD cable, allowing you to plug the camera directly into an HDTV to view the content on it. It takes two AA batteries, and they throw in two rechargeable AAs, as well a charger. We’ve taken a bunch of images of the device, which you can find in our Kodak Zi6 gallery. When it comes to the handheld camcorder market, there are a few key players. Of course, there are the Flip cameras that everyone knows and loves, but more recently these cameras have started to sport high definition recording features. While the Flip Mino HD is out there, we’ve also got the Kodak Zi6, as well as the Creative Vado HD. In this particular unboxing gallery, we give you a closer look at the Creative Vado HD. As you’ll see, aside from the camera, which has an integrated USB stick for transferring videos to your computer, it also includes a rubber case, and even a USB extender cable, which is a very welcome addition. So, by now you know we are big fans of the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, as we’ve talked about them quite extensively. The over-the-ear cans are just very good, and we also appreciate the look. Up next for the line, though, are the Beats Tour edition. The difference? While the Beats Studio headphones went over the ear, the Beats Tour headphones are actually earbuds, meant to go in your ear (obviously.)
